Howdy flist. How was your weekend? Mine was action-packed. :-)
On Friday night I met up with
pennswoods and Mr. Pennswoods for dinner. Then she came over for a
snapecast recording with
chaeche and catching up. We drank hot cocoa and shared an earphone because my PC laptop went on the fritz. Merc Retro is upon us and it certainly hit me thrice- laptop screen, a portable harddrive and a metrocard all failed in one week. But that's alright. No losses that can't or haven't been recovered. In the morning she made the "mistake" of asking about Adipose and so while I was getting ready for teaching she was subjected to that episode of DW. Her assessment was that it was a fun show, but I am not certain it got its hooks into her.
This Saturday was my last Saturday morning class; one of my students came up to me and asked if I was going for tenure. I had to explain to her that it doesn't work that way for adjuncts, and that I'm still a doctoral candidate. When I asked her why, she said that of all the faculty at the school she has (in two classes) learned the most from me. I was beyond moved.
Before coming to class, I picked up some German holiday cookies at a crafts fair and I guess the way I said Pfeffernüsse gave it away, because the vendor asked if I spoke German. We then had a nice little two minute conversation in German, which was fun as it always makes me a little happy to be able to practice my language skills.
After teaching I went shopping with a friend and fiiiinally bought a pair of skinny leg trousers. They look much better with my Chucks than boot cut leg pants. Then it was bread and cheese and wine with my friend JS where we spent time capping up our year and reflecting on love and loss and work and life. It was such a fulfilling day. But to add to that, I went to a party in the evening with the Jew Crew. It was AJ's birthday and I had a lovely conversation with a friend of theirs who works at the Sotheby's Auction House. We joked about how the clientele will spend $10,000 in disposable income on an auction item and the nearest I got was splurging on my 3Gs iPhone.
We had a snowstorm on Saturday night and I managed to get one picture on the UWS on my way to the party. On the way home it was too windy and the snow was too heavy to try again whilst trodding to the train station.

Oh, and I also got together with staff during the week for our office holiday party. Here I am with two of the guys.

On Sunday I made the executive decision to not go out in the snow again and not get dressed. I watched more Farscape, played with my Wii, talked on the phone, and generally just relaxed. It was just what the doctor ordered. :-)
I am feeling content to the point of wondering when the shoe will drop. That's not to say I haven't got things on my mind, responsibilities to attend to, wounds to heal, etc. But considering my mood this time last year, or even this time last month, I'll take it where I can get it. Socializing really does fill me with a certain contentment and I must make an effort to create more balance in my life. I think I will make this my resolution for 2010.
