What a pain in the . . .
Oct. 30th, 2009 07:22 pmGreetings flisters. Did you miss me all week? I missed you!
I've been laid up aaaall week. It turns out I have herniated disks in my neck. I've been taking steroids and Tramadol and my life exists in 6-hour increments along with the medications. I take a pill, I fall asleep, I wake up feeling ok, I start to feel pain again, the pill wears off completely, I take another pill . . .
Last night I went for an MRI. Hands up, who's had one of those before? It's like laying in a coffin, inside a nightclub. Like you're inside the subwoofer. I had to keep my eyes closed to forget I was so enclosed. But boy did my mind wander as I lay in there for 25 minutes.
I managed to make it to work for 1/2 a day today, packing it in once my next pain pill threatened to put me to sleep. At least I got a ton of paperwork done before that happened. About the only ones who are enjoying this little convalescence are the kitties. They are spoiled, greedy little monsters who have been getting their fill of cuddling up with me on the couch. And boy am I ever grateful for my couch. I know I've said before that it's bewitched - you can get trapped on it for hours on a good day. But the fact that it's kind of stiff has worked to my advantage this week. It's more comfortable for my neck there than on my bed. So I've been laying on my bed, watching old episodes of Star Trek, clearing things off my DVD, and generally being something of a zombie.
Speaking of zombies, alas, I doubt I will be partaking in any Halloween festivities after all. :-( For the past few years I've yearned to do something for Halloween, but too busy with school. This year I could have found a way to fit it in, and I doubt I can withstand staying out and up for any real length of time. My friend LG might come over and watch a scary movie with me. That'll be nice. I sure could go for some candy corn.
So how's your week been, flist? Hopefully not as painful, strange and otherworldly as mine.
