Sunday afternoon. I'm grading papers, doing taxes, and trying hard not to succumb to a nap.

Happy daylight saving day, flist.

For anyone on my list interested in the Federal (and state) budgets, I post this for your interest. (do I hear crickets?)

I am on the email list for the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. They focus on analysing the budget, with a particular interest in low-income policies. Naturally, as a social worker interested in policy issues, I take a keen interest in some of their findings.

Today I received this in my inbox, which calculates the changes in spending for defense, social security, medicaid and medicare between 2001 and 2008.

http://www.cbpp.org/3-5-08bud.pdf

Changes from 2001 - 2008
Defense & security +7.5%
Soc Sec, Medicare/caid -2.4%
Other mandatory programs -1.4%
Domestic discretionary -3.7%

How many days left until Bush is out of office????
