So I stepped outside for a few minutes to run some errands on this very rainy day. Everybody I spoke with is feeling ill and tired and cranky. Literally everyone. I am exam-crazed and feel intermittently queasy.

I went into Two Boots pizza and got a slice; their pizza is special because the sauce is a bit spicy and it has a cornmeal crust. YUM. "Roller coaster of Love" (Red Hot Chili Pepper version) was playing on the radio and I now realize that song will forever be inexorably linked in my mind with Beavis and Butthead.

A woman asked me to watch her bag while she got up to get another slice. I always wonder--are one's belongings in fact safer under the watchful gaze of a complete stranger than simply left alone?

Also, when I walked into work to pick up my paycheck, my boss informed me that the State inspector showed up. Last month it was my intention to start prepping for our annual audit. My boss was soooo sure it wouldn't happen until June that she talked me out of prepping early. I did some marginal preparations, but not nearly the kind of fine tooth combing I normally do for our audits. I'm glad I wasn't there, because I know in my heart of hearts that I would have FREAKED OUT and become the horrible monster boss everyone loathes, frantically trying to make up in minutes what I'd normally do over the course of a few weeks.

Mercury is in retrograde. The battery on my MacBook is all but dead. And the monitor on my PC laptop has been making a steady decline. Yesterday and today it hit new heights of uncooperativeness. I don't know what to do. I suppose I could have my PC repaired, even though it's no longer under warranty. The temptation to buy a new one is great. At least the battery on my MacBook Pro, while expensive, isn't prohibitive. But when do I take it in for repair? Definitely not before the end of the month, that's for damn sure.

Well, back to the books.
