So the news is all about Obama's first 100 days. My understanding is that the examination of a President's first 100 days all started with Roosevelt and what he did in his first 100 days in office to initiate the New Deal during the Great Depression.
Now that the hype of the campaign is gone and we head deeper into the work phase of his Presidency, I would like to see the following policies prioritized and accomplished in concert with Congress (some of these need Congress to pass legislation, others are Executive branch implementation efforts):
1. Universal health care
2. Repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act
3. Repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell
4. Accountability for the monies that went to the banking industry (we should have had a bail out of people owing money, not the banks IMO)
5. Overhaul of student loans including reduction in percentage rates and loan forgiveness for people working with vulnerable populations/for a nonprofit
6. Help for States to provide expanded social services in response to the economic downturn (what I'd really like is an overhaul of the U.S. welfare system and expanded affordable and accessible housing options, but that's not gonna happen)
7. Change in the application process for Disability claims so that more people with illnesses actually get approved the first time around
8. Expanded options for undocumented people who are working so they can gain legal status and pay income tax
How 'bout you, flisters?
