Up, up and away!
Jan. 12th, 2011 11:02 amWell I travel to Tampa, FL tonight. The snowstorm in NYC was not so terrible after all. Mine was one of two flights spared from cancellation yesterday and I've just printed my boarding pass.
Everyone at work seems amazed at my ability to pack 5 outfits plus workout clothing (and shoes, and trainers!) into an overnight bag. But one trip too many lugging too many bags on the UK National Rail has taught me how to economize.
It's funny, I don't feel as nervous about going to this professional conference as the last one even though I won't know as many people there. It might be that I've simply overcome that hurdle. Or that I see this as a total working weekend so it doesn't matter if I know anyone. I've packed a few books and my laptop this time. My girls are taken care of (someone is staying at my place). And there won't be the same pressure to go out and see the town because of a) slim finances; and b) the fact I won't have a car. I'm likely not going to see anything other than my hotel and the conference location! Can I really say I've been to Tampa if that's all I get to see? Gosh it's so very grown up, going on a trip for a professional conference on one's own.
So, wish me luck flist. I'm likely to pop on again as the internet may very well turn out to be my only source of entertainment for days. Either way, see you when I do.
