Boing! Boing!
Jun. 14th, 2010 01:07 pmI am so jumpy today, fidgety and unable to concentrate. Most if it is overspill from seeing the Boosh boys on Saturday (you missed the worst of it, LJ. But I was on the phone chatting my head off for over an hour in the wee hours after the event). Some of it is the red bull I consumed this morning. (I had such trouble getting up this morning and I'm not sure why as I even tried going to be early last night).
On Sunday I went to a family event. My nephew Mikey graduated from college and my niece Nicole graduated from law school. I have very little connection to them, owing to family dynamics. So when I go to this brother's events it almost feels like I'm attending a party at someone else's family. My SiL Nanci is, well, not the warmest person. Conversations with her are usually monologues (she either complains about something or tells you why you are wrong in whatever opinion you have). Her father didn't recognize me when I walked in. He literally said to me "Oh, I didn't recognize you. You look normal today." I asked my brother Michael about his summer plans. He did not ask mine in return. When I talked with Mikey and Nicole about their graduation and futures, they were the kind of stilted polite conversations distant relatives usually have. It's a shame, really, but what can you do?
Luckily, my other brother and SiL were there with the little ones and they are always fun. Stephen ran around chasing some girls who hid from him in the bathroom after awhile. He then sat at the bar drinking soda and watching the game, which I found very funny. I jokingly asked him "So what do you do for a living? Doctor? Lawyer? Chef? Accountant?" and he kept saying "No! I just go to school and play soccer!" So I said "Aaaah, a sportsman then." He was getting very frustrated with me, but it was cute. He told me all about how he likes to play offense.
It was great to see Jenna, too, who is such a happy child. She's dying to see my kitties again and her leg is so completely healed now she's been playing soccer too.
My SiL Svetlana is making jewelry now. I told her that I saw Eric Ripert two weeks ago and she got excited, as she bought me his Le Bernardin cookbook for my birthday. She wants to come over my place for a dinner party. Such a stark contrast from the other SiL who has never stepped foot in my house once in 16 years.
Svetlana decided to deal with the party dynamics by getting a buzz on white wine. It was loud and nobody was friendly. So I joined her in a jack and coke and it seems that's my brother Rick's drink of choice too (or, at least when the bar has a limited stock).
Here are a few pictures of all the excitement. Clickable thumbnails ( this way )
