Oh crap:
So it seems GENDA was defeated in the NY State Senate today because apparently, employment protection is too much to ask for. Ok flistees in the Bronx, time to vote out Diaz. Please?

Oh dissertation:
Today's news on GENDA simply highlights the importance of my dissertation. It's been buzzing in my head and my gut for a few days that June is here and it's really time to start buckling down if I am to have a proposal to defend in the Fall. Since I find myself unable to do any real concentration at work, I chose instead to start an important task to get myself better acquainted with the data set. I started the codebook. (This is a chart, essentially, that tells you what each of the variables are). I feel good about this.

I also ordered business cards! My University granted permission last year for students to use the University name (though not the logo) to print our own cards. So I splurged and went with VistaPrint. I figure it'll be a good idea to have them on hand when I go to the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) conference in October. I was also invited to something at Hunter later this month, and it wouldn't hurt to have them to hand out there.

I have been feeling itchy to move on lately. My job has been good to me, but there are aspects of it that are becoming increasingly difficult to tolerate. While I am normally rather risk averse when it comes to employment, there are times when one needs to take a risk in order to move forward in life. Awhile ago I mentioned applying for a faculty position and a few weeks ago actually went for an interview. The University is still waiting to hear if the position will be funded (it's temporary - 1 or 2 years, not tenure track), but this might be a good opportunity for me to branch out, put a fire under my butt, and actually afford me time during the day to work on my dissertation instead of relegating it to evenings and weekends. I have a gut feeling they will offer me the position if it's funded. But I will only take it if they can meet my salary requirement. So, we'll see.

Today my Rob Brezsny horoscope seemed to reflect something of my state of mind. I feel like I need to make a change, and so perhaps opportunity is really waiting for me.
