I need this like I need a hole in my head
Aug. 28th, 2007 07:12 pmSo, my inner Hermione has been forced to take a back seat just when I'm under the gun to get things done for the Fall semester. As
mysduende,
chaeche and
lookfar have all patiently listened to me whinge about, my eyes have been making me crazy. Blurry vision, dry eyes, recurrent pain. I went back to my eye doctor this morning and yelled at him that the drops aren't working and the pain in my right eye is the worst one ever. The third corneal abrasion this summer.
He agreed that I need a cornea specialist. Originally he suggested I use super lubricating drops like Systane during the day and "Refresh Liquigel" at night (which served to act like superglue on my eyelashes every morning). But my right eye puffed up this week anyway and I got another corneal tear/abrasion.
Well at long last, I have a diagnosis: Recurrent Corneal Erosion Syndrome. I have an appointment with a cornea specialist next month and I just pray between now and then I don't get another tear (it would be the third this summer). He recommended a couple doctors at the NY Eye and Ear Infirmary. But when I looked on their website, one of them was just too attractive. I'm not sure I could sit behind the eye machine while this guy leans in and looks at me without enjoying it too much for my own good, so I chose his older practice partner who is also senior in position at the hospital. :-D
But I digress...
So, I actually took a cab from the eye doctor into work this morning. But after about two minutes it became patently obvious that I was not meant to be there. My staff were all "GO HOME!" and the clients were offering to help me get a cab, lend me their sunglasses, asking what happened, etc etc etc. It was very touching, actually. And even though I only live 6 blocks away from the shelter, I consented to taking a car service home. I spent most of the day on my couch watching bad tv and falling asleep. I can't sit on the computer for long because it starts to hurt. I can't read. My dominant eye is patched and my other eye is watery. :grumble, grumble: But at least the kitties are glad to have me around.
Anyway, such is my latest tale of woe. Wish me luck in healing quickly and finishing my damn syllabus before classes start. It's going to be a very close call.
