Sunday Morning
Nov. 7th, 2004 11:11 amWell, I never found out what that booming noise was. My neighbors and I think perhaps it was some unscheduled fireworks. There was nothing in the local news. When I went up to the roof, it was all over but for a puff of smoke floating in the air from further downtown.
In NYC, you simply cannot hear a continuous strange noise without thinking 'terrorist attack' in the back of your mind. It's a collective PTSD the likes of which most of the world can only sympathise, but not feel quite the same way. Oh, and by the way, I a guy went to ground zero yesterday and killed himself. They think it was in protest to the election results.
Did find this though, an article on ways to overcome your grief over the Kerry loss. And apparently there's a website where people can go online and apologize to the world for fellow citizens who voted for Bush. There was a lot of talk at the party last night about whether to move to another country, or stay and fight. Serious talk.
Make no mistake. New Yorkers and liberals across the country are feeling desperately depressed.
My very sad feelings last night are not gone. And I think this general feeling of post-election malaise was a compounding factor to the inadvertent reminder I got last night--that relationship-wise, I seem to be in the same position I was in 15 years ago when I first met that guy who was at the party last night. In fact, I feel like I'm going backwards because now that I'm older and heavier I don't even get the kind of rabid sexual attention I used to get back then (not that it's all a bad thing).
Anyway, thanks flisters for all your words of comfort. It's nice to know you are out there. :-)
Today I have waaaaay too much schoolwork to do. So, off I go...
