And so it seems LJ is now suffering a third DDoS attack.

I miss LJ. I miss my well-populated flist. And my icons (is there a way to import them without having to upload them all from scratch?). And my comms. And my cut tags, what I don't know how to do on DW. And I hate that DW can mean dreamwidth AND Doctor Who.

Posting in two places feels schizophrenic to me.

But here I wandered after the site went down just as I clicked on an entry to read and comment.

I have DW codes, if anyone wants one.

And in light of the $hitstorn on LJ, I give you this article on 14th century living and poo disposal, what entertained and informed me a great deal this afternoon. I already knew the origin of the word "loo" though, thanks to a ghost tour during my visit to Edinburgh.

Well, here I am, minus most of my icons. In a pinch, I suppose that I could gank some icon space from unexpected_finn, but that would be cheating, no?

Yes, that's an issue, especially if one is moving from a permanent account at LJ to a lesser account at DW. Je donne un sigh, alors.

I've been cross-posting everything for quite awhile, but I hardly ever remember to read the DW reading page; I still read LJ reflexively, out of habit. It IS annoying to be spread across two journals and I want to be loyal to LJ. Heck, I've been there since 2001. But the DDoS attacks and the various controversies roiling it, I'm wary of LJ's future.

Yes, I know a number of people who have been x-posting. But I too worry, especially if this is an organized Russian attack and not just some spiteful hacker/4chan nonsense.

I've added you over here, which I see you've already figured out! Dreamwidth is very handy for crossposting, but I haven't felt the need to move over there entirely ... yet. We'll see how LJ survives these attacks.

LJ is either under an attack from some very persistent Russian script kiddies and the sort who must be early risers 'cos it's down again in EU land this morning- can't even raise the server (and the ever useful isitjustme confirms that it's out) or more likely, and as some folks in Russia and Ukraine believe this really IS a Putin/Medvedev government attempt at wrecking and hooliganism, to use a good Soviet era phrase.

Either way, it's depressing :o(
