CSA dinner party
Aug. 15th, 2010 09:26 pmSo I had a dinner party on Friday for some friends who haven't yet partaken of my CSA. I wanted to do something big, even though my flat is tiny and I don't have enough dishes for big. We wound up a group of six in the end, and it seems my food was largely devoured.
Items from my CSA in Friday's meal included
Eggplant
Cucumber
Carrots
Celery
Broccoli
Red Leaf Lettuce
Green Leaf Lettuce
Yellow grape tomatoes
Basil
Pears
Behold, the eggplant, unwaxed, unadorned. Isn't she beautiful?

And the humble cucumber (this one a kirby), also unwaxed, in it's beautiful ( natural state )
The menu consisted of:
Sliced egg with mayo and paprika on sliced 7-grain
Plain hummus and spicy hummus
with ( crudite )
Cucumbers with goat cheese, spicy hummus, greek yogurt ( and chives )
Eggplant (baked then finished off on a George Foreman grill) with tomato and garlicky parmesan mayo topping and ( basil garnish )
The Hors d'œuvre ( spread )
For the main course, a salad of mixed leaves, carrots, tomatoes and red onion with champagne ( vinaigrette )
and fettucine with ( pesto )
For dessert, Bosc pears poached in port wine with vanilla bean ( ice cream )
I also put out some peppermint toads.
soulsister101 brought macarons, which were a perfect accompaniment to the pears and ice cream.
And here are some pics of

This is what I looked like after a day of cooking and cleaning. I desperately need a ( haircut )
For drinks I brewed some Moroccan Mint iced tea and made French 75s. Alas, I was left with half a bottle of champagne at the end of the night. It did not go to waste. ;-)
As I put on FB the next morning, the post-party state of my flat was a mess of macarons like sugary statues. Paper plate forest. And half an eggplant slice in post-coital curl with a tomato.
Apparently, my priorities are such that I put the gin in the freezer but forget to put the lemonade in the fridge before heading to bed.
The rest of my weekend was a bit of a blur. I met up with DR of the Jew Crew Saturday after shabbat ended for him. We were meant to see a film, but he got stuck on the train. So instead we had some nachos and drinks, and wandered through Union Square chatting. Today I went to brunch with my friend CR. She and I also hung in the park and conversed about a variety of topics over iced coffees. I tried to woo her to a DWNY meetup (alas, she's a Tennant fangirl).
And I got lost down a fanfic hole (
tehfanglyfish I saw you comment on one that I read).
Tomorrow I am determined to get to the University library, and create a reading schedule for myself. I've also been rehearsing in my head a way to utilize a problem from last week as a "learning experience" for a staff member of mine who keeps screwing up. Fingers crossed that it goes well, though the person in question tends to get defensive and never actually learn from said mistakes.
And now, yah, I'm well knackered. Happy Sunday, flist.
