Snow and shopping and nesting dolls!
Dec. 7th, 2009 11:53 amSo it snowed for about 5 minutes in NYC on Saturday night, precipitated by and followed by lots of rain.
And today it seems I've been showered with virtual snowflakes!
So thank you
septentrion,
xterm,
blackeyedlily and also
madam_minnie who I do not even know. Aaah, the kindness of strangers.
By Sunday morning my cold had gotten itself down to a manageable sniffle, so I went with a DWNY acquaintance (JA) and her friends to the BUST holiday craftacular and spent waaay too much money. I bought a funky necklace with the design of an old Singer sewing machine that is vaguely steampunkish (I've not adopted the whole steampunk thing, but the sewing machine reminded me of my paternal grandmother) and a fantastic headband adorned with a small glittery bird with plumage that is now desperate to be worn on New Years Eve. I also bought a pair of earrings for a friend and that cap I coveted months ago. Pictures forthcoming, I promise.
However, I do have one picture for you. Upon walking inside, a table was set up with a raffle, free issues of BUST magazine, and ( bisexual gum! )
After shopping we went for brunch at Le Singe Vert where I scarfed down a yummy Eggs Norwegienne. As we were comparing our various acquisitions, one of JA's friends offhandedly said "Oh, and I got these wooden nesting dolls." Of course, my brain exploded remembering poor
jigglykat's woes over finding ones to make another set. So I took a pic (I do so heart my iPhone) and rang her up and then scurried back to the Craftacular to pick them up for her. I felt extremely pleased to have come to her rescue, and secondly engaged her in having a bit of fun winding up the intended recipient of said nesting dolls. How can one side art project have turned into such a tempest in a teacup? Suffice to say, I gained as much enjoyment out of finding the dolls for her as I did stepping into what was previously a vicarious fun. I also briefly looked for a brown pinstripe suit (no luck yet) and when I got home made an icon out of the holiday Tardis graphic BBC put up, to amuse myself.
So I ended the day feeling really good and now it's Monday and I must grade papers that went ignored all weekend. How are you, flist?
And today it seems I've been showered with virtual snowflakes!
So thank you
