Spring is in the air
Jun. 2nd, 2008 12:30 pmWhat a glorious weekend I had!
Friday night I went to see Sex and the City with a group of friends, for my friend L's birthday. I won't post spoilers, but if you were a fan of the show there's a good chance you'll like the film. There were some parts I didn't like, and certainly I'm not a label whore interested in designer bags and high heeled shoes. But the relationships between the women and the ones each character has with herself drive the interest for me. So in that regard, I enjoyed it.
On Saturday I was meant to go to a house party in NJ, but it rained and I had no hot water. So I didn't leave my house except to drop off some laundry. I thought it best to refrain from human contact. ;-) Instead, I stayed home and baked a quiche! I made it lower fat (as quiche is notoriously high fat otherwise--I calculated it to be only 338 calories per slice) and it came out well. I'd even say it came out pretty. Here's a pic:
Recipe available upon request! :-)
On Sunday I met up with my friend J in the park for some sun and chatting. The weather was GLORIOUS. It feels so good to just sit outside, in the sun, and not obsessing over school work. Quite a luxury.
Now I'm waiting to hear my exam results, I expect a phone call any day. I've also been checking my school email every 5 minutes because I applied for a pre-dissertation award and it's been a month since I submitted my application. If I get it, they will pay for me to attend two conferences and meet up with other social work doctoral students interested in gerontology research. Fingers crossed!
About the only disappointment this weekend was Doctor Who. Everyone is raving over this latest episode, but I was so NOT impressed. I didn't find it scary or compelling at all, except for the possibility about learning something regarding the Doctor's future. Honestly, for the first time in a year, I was bored. But it's a two-parter, so I'm hoping the second part will pick up. I felt similarly about the Sontaran Strategem / Poison Sky. I liked part 1 better after viewing part 2. So we'll see.
So, happy spring flist. How was your weekend?
